from Mayor Laforet The assination of two NYPD Police Officers over the weekend is an unconscionable, despicable act. It makes us realize how much we value our own Mahwah Police Officers, and the pure risks officers encounter every day is very different than most could imagine. While some choose to criticize our Police Department for their personal gain, and theater, they are in the minority. Our MPD has achieved National CALEA ranking this agency in the top 3% of agencies in the United States, in addition our community was recently awarded the “Safest Community in the State of New Jersey”. Due to the fine Mahwah Police Department we have today. Your Mahwah taxpayer dollars invested in this agency has returned dividends on its investment. Upon hearing about this tragic assignation this weekend, you must have thought as I did, about the safety of our own Mahwah Police Officers. There is no longer the separation from tragedy as we once thought. I wanted to personally thank the Chief Batelli and his staff, and all the fine men and women who serve us every day for their extraordinary service. We are safer as a community, thanks to them. During this Holiday Season, if you have the opportunity to say “Thanks” please do so personally. Again, as your Mayor I am proud of the fine men and women of the Mahwah Police Department
