i dont think hes incorrect, but its also kind of a pointless distinction. ultimately HEMA is focusing on (among other things) techniques from fechtbucher, many of which require grabbing a blade with a mailled hand or being mounted. i guess technically yeah these techniques are more valuable than sport fencing if you live in an area where many people commonly walk around armed with long swords, if youre often fully armored while performing daily tasks, regularly encounter miscreants while riding your horse, in armor, with sword at side, or if you live in the world of highlander. but really, theyre both just different sports. HEMA being more similar to historical fencing doesnt make it a better sport.
