ingwood Station and Interchange Upgrade Cost $66 million Timeframe Construction to start in September 2014 and completed by early 2016. What’s happening? In preparation for the commencement of works in the coming weeks, the project team will be setting up the site office and implementing the following changes from Monday 8 September 2014: Taxi rank relocation and Railway Place closure - Monday 8 September until further notice Railway Place be closed to traffic and the taxi rank will be relocated to the station-side of Maroondah Highway in front of the bus interchange (16 metres from the station entry). 1 hour parking spaces at this location will be changed to a 2 minute drop-off zone. Map - taxi rank relocation from Monday 8 September (PDF) 1.06 MB Footpath closure and pedestrian detour - Monday 8 September until October The footpath in front of the old shops on Maroondah Highway (station-side) will be closed to facilitate building demolition. Pedestrians will be detoured to the footpath across the road (Eastland-side) where they can use the traffic lights to cross into the station precinct. Detour map - temporary pedestrian detour from Monday 8 September until October (PDF) 990 KB Thanet Court car park works - August update As part of the project 42 station car parks will be created on the site of the Thanet Court dry cleaners. The informal parking area will be closed for construction works from Monday 28 April until the new spaces open in September 2014. During this time, customers are advised to use the Murray Place parking or travel to Heatherdale Station which has over 500 customer car parks. Limited free parking is available at Murray Place however please refer to signage advising hours and fees. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding during these works. Project description The $66 million upgrade of the Ringwood Station precinct will deliver modern, integrated transport facilities to Ringwood. The upgrade will create a safer, more accessible and attractive place for people to live, work and visit. The project will transform the station precinct. Existing station buildings will be upgraded with more comfortable passenger facilities, new ramps, lifts and escalators will be installed between the platforms and a new concourse and forecourt will be created. The bus interchange will also be reconstructed and expanded and the Maroondah Highway pedestrian crossing will be improved. VicRoads is managing project design and construction on behalf of Public Transport Victoria. Project benefits The project includes: an upgrade to Ringwood Station to provide full accessibility and improve amenity and shelter for customers a new pedestrian concourse providing 24-hour access over the rail line an upgrade of the heritage-listed station buildings reconstruction and expansion of the bus interchange new toilet facilities and waiting areas creation of a new landscaped station forecourt increased safety with additional lighting and CCTV a new signalised pedestrian crossing of Maroondah Highway, with more frequent crossing opportunities improved pedestrian and cycling facilities along the Maroondah Highway and Station Street improvements to the road environment in central Ringwood to create a boulevard between Ringwood Street and Warrandyte Road.
