(repost) Ok, here is another one that may surprise you! Have you ever heard it taught that God cant look upon sin and that is why Jesus said My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? when he was dying on the cross? Matt 27:46. The common teaching is that God put ALL the SINS of the world upon him at that moment and had to look away because God is Holy and cant look upon sin. Is this really true or just an urban legend or tradition of man passed along in mans fallen, darkened mind? If you said to any Jew present in Jesus day my God, my God why have you forsaken me they would IMMEDIATELY known that you were quoting Psalms 22! It is just like singing the lyrics of a popular hit song today - everyone would know what you were referring to. So, lets go to Psalms 22 and see if God was really forsaking Jesus and turning away or abandoning him. It is a GREAT IDEA to see that Psalms 22 is the plight of Jesus at the Cross and what he went through for us. It is the fulfillment of prophesy. Jesus completely fulfilled Psalms 22 to the letter. Check out the tail end of verse 24 as it says he has NOT hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help. Do you see it??? God did NOT hide is face from Jesus nor abandon him! This is a MYTH pass along via tradition. However, Jesus in his HUMANITY THOUGHT he did. This shows that Jesus was human just like us! He was experiencing COMPLETELY what WE experience - darkness and disconnection from the father (life), loneliness and isolation! If he didnt fully experience this, how could he fully understand us and be our savior???? We should REJOICE in this!!! We have a savior who FULLY understands what it is like to be LONELY, SCARED and ISOLATED - cut off from the LIFE of the world! Thus, please remember today - he is there WITH you, in the midst of your darkness, in the depths of your soul where it feels no one else is with you.... and he knows you fully... and loves you fully. Nothing you think or do can change that...
