why wasnt the mike mitchel (council of akwesasne) proposal for a free trade zone not taken into greater consideration? while on the walk against the storage tanks i asked this question, the answer was city council felt it would effect local businesses, it has, detrimentally. there are no free trade zones within a 100 mile radius of cornwall. did they consider that just maybe it would bring in outside community to cornwall for the saveings? how many of those people would also shop in the local establishments, possibly have a meal, take in the sights, enjoy a relaxing walk through lameroux park, listen to musicians performing at the bandshell, visit the benson center for a swim, enjoy a drink on the patio of the civic complex? one small change could result in a multitude of greater changes. my business is people oriented, the more people through my doors the more business i do and if you dont draw new people to our city, how are they to know i am here to serve them, no wonder we are called the armpit of ontario still, even though the stench of the armpit has been removed,..... NO TANKS
