13 years ago today, I was at Mike Bailey’s with one of his twin boys Mikey. He was home from school and we were watching tv when the news broke. We watched in shock as they showed pictures of plane #1 burning in the side of the tower. Then moments later we were both floored as we watched the second plane hit the other tower. What a moment of terror that was as we both voiced our opinion that this had to be terrorists, but not wanting to believe it could be so. Watching the people, scared and helpless as they dangled from windows and then eventually jumping, hoping for something to save them, I can’t even express the sadness I felt for the helpless of those in the Towers. A very tragic moment I could never forget if I wanted to, and I don’t. I want to remember the bitter feelings I felt. “How dare they, we are America, who could have been so ruthless as to harm so many innocent people.” I would like to ask them all so many things, but most of all, why? These people did nothing to deserve to die on a normal business day, but after that, nothing was normal. Will America ever get “normal” back? Brave Firemen/women, Police Officer’s, and regular people all ran to help. Many perished trying to help the stranded in the buildings. People were trapped, roads, bridges, tunnels and subways were instantly shut down. 100’s of boats came together and evacuated Lower Manhattan Island. The boats evacuated over 500,000 people in just over 9 hours making it the largest evacuation from water ever. Tom Hanks narrates a video of the 9/11 boat evacuation on youtube, it is a very informative, heart wrenching documentary. So I will close with “God Bless America and Hell has room for anyone who will try to attack again.” I would also like to thank all of the brave soldiers who have lived through, died, or been injured protecting this wonderful country of ours and the Freedom they have protected with every shot fired and bomb dropped. youtube/watch?v=MDOrzF7B2Kg
