7 million newly insured, 5 million LOST their policies, so you can define success with as low or high a bar as you choose, I guess. Net, we insured one smallish major city, good, but a helluva lot of hullabaloo for that modest success. That said, I know people who absolutely are deserving beneficiaries of this, talented co-workers who, thanks to the still-in-the-tank-economy, are the working poor (also my plight had I not a wife with an excellent public-sector job), and low enough on the scale that they get complete subsidy, resulting in a wonderful value/bargain. Its just sad that it was such a poorly conceived and executed plan that it hurts nearly as many as it helps. And weve seen but the tip of the iceberg yet, as the fines and tax ramifications (economy killers) have yet to kick in. Health care for all US citizens SHOULD be, IS, possible, but this execution makes me think of an ambitious kid with a lemonade stand being handed the reins of GM.
