Agitation by the local tribal people at Eklakhi (near Malda) under the Katihar Division of Northeast Frontier Railway has badly affected train services today. At about 11 AM, hundreds of people assembled at Eklakhi with traditional arms and blocked both the Up and Down lines thereby stopping train movement. They were protesting against the recent incidents of violence in Assam. The agitation was finally withdrawn at 4:30 PM after which train services resumed. The following Mail / Express / Passenger trains were detained, short terminated / re-scheduled as a result ; 1) 14055 DN Brahmaputra Mail was controlled at Bhaluka Road station for 282 minutes. 2) 15658 DN Kanchenjungha Express was controlled at Samsi station for 282 minutes. 3) 55704 DN was halted at Eklakhi station for 310 minutes. 4) 14563 Balurghat-New Jalpaiguri Express was short terminated at Buniyadpur. 5) 14564 New Jalpaiguri-Balurghat Express was short terminated at Barsoi to run as 15463 between Barsoi and New Jalpaiguri. 6) 75701 Malda Town – Balurghat DEMU passenger was short terminated at Adina and remained partially cancelled between Adina and Balurghat. 7) 55712 passenger was short terminated at Harischandrapur and remained cancelled between Harishchandrapur and Malda. 8) 55711 Malda Town – NJP passenger will originate from Harishchandrapur and remain partially cancelled between Harishchandrapur and Malda Town. 9) 55702 Katihar – Malda Town passenger has been re-scheduled at 16:25 hrs from Katihar instead of 14:45 hrs. 10) 75702 Balurghat – Malda Town DEMU passenger will originate from Adina and remain partially cancelled between Balurghat and Adina. 11) 15464 New Jalpaiguri – Balurghat Intercity Express was short terminated at Harishchandrapur and remained partially cancelled between Harishchandrapur and Balurghat. This rake will work as passenger special from Harishchandrapur to NJP. 12) 15463 Balurghat – NJP Intercity Express will short terminate at Buniadpur and remain cancelled between Buniadpur and NJP. This rake will work as empty rake from Buniadpur to Balurghat and pick up the schedule of 55422 from Balurghat to Malda. 13) 55703 Malda Town – Katihar passenger has been re-scheduled at 18:00 hrs instead of 14:15 hrs from Malda Town. 14) 55760 & 55769 passengers between Katihar and Teznarayanpur will remain cancelled.
