Anon asks How do parents who use gentle parenting discipline their dogs? my husband is the Alpha in our wolf-pack of giant Mastidanes and lab mixes. These are well behaved dogs but sometimes they do typical dog things like get into the trash or start playing a bit rough in the house. Usually, my husband just says outside and they rush to the yard. When I am alone with the dogs a simple outside rarely works - I find myself raising my voice to them and even giving pats on the bottom just to get their attention. Although effective to the dog, I have noticed my 14mo DS picking up the habits towards the dogs and us. Some times he will walk over to a sleeping pooch, point his finger at him and just belt out a loud long scream. How do gentle parents who prefer not to raise their voices in their home discipline their pooches in front of their children without having to get loud? Just so everyone doesnt ask - I have attended obedience school with the dogs and firm nos were used - that and plus loud name calling (their given names) is what I use to get their attention. These dogs are amazing with our son - getting rid of them is never going to be an option 😊
