Cliven Bundy. Not a hero. Not a patriot. Why? Not a hero, because he believes black people might have been better off as slaves. His racist rhetoric ignores the fact that most African Americans are law-abiding, citizens who contribute to the community. The great irony? He assumes all African Americans are on government subsidies, which is a bad thing. However, the root of his conflict with the BLM/Feds is that he has been grazing on restricted government land for two decades and refuses to pay fines and fees. Effectively, he is giving himself a government subsidy when most other ranchers pay their grazing fees. Not a patriot because he refuses to recognize the authority of the federal government, which is the United States. He considers himself a sovereign citizen which means he thinks each man/woman is a country unto himself. One cannot be a patriot and refuse to recognize the United States government. A sovereign citizen is, by definition, a seditionist and NOT a patriot. There are lots of places where the federal government needs to change. Unwarranted wiretaps is a great place to start. But, we have a system by which these changes are proposed and enacted. Cliven Bundy had his day in court and lost. If he were a true patriot, he would pay his fines and remove his cattle from public lands. But he is not a true patriot. He is a racist seditionist.
