DAY 216 – GOD HAS FORGIVEN - TopicsExpress

DAY 216 – GOD HAS FORGIVEN YOU ------------------------------------------------- If there was a time when the LORD Jesus should have stopped praying, it was when he was nailed to the cross – when they were guilty of direct acts of deadly violence against his divine person, he might have been justified if he stopped praying for them. But their sin could not tie the tongue of our interceding Friend. Though you have sinned and grieved his Spirit, but you have not stopped that powerful tongue which prays for you. You have been unfruitful, and like a barren tree, you deserve to be cut down – but your lack of fruitfulness has not removed the Intercessor from his place. He intercedes at this moment, pleading, “Spare the tree one more year.” Though you have provoked God by rejecting his mercy, going from bad to worse, but neither blasphemy nor unrighteousness, nor infidelity shall keep Christ from praying for even the chief of sinners. Jesus lives, and while he lives, he pleads, he intercedes, he prays – and while there is a sinner on the earth that needs to be saved, there will be an Intercessor in heaven who will plead for him. While these are just fragments, I hope they will help you realise the intercession of your Great High Priest. Meditate again upon this prayer of our LORD on earth. It is like his prayer in heaven, because of its wisdom. He seeks the best thing and that which sinners need the most, “Father, forgive them.” That was the great point in hand – they needed at that very moment forgiveness from God. Jesus does not say, “Father, enlighten them, because they don’t know what they are doing,” because just enlightenment would have created torture of conscience and quickened their hell. But the LORD cries, “Father, forgive them” – and while he used his voice, the precious drops of blood which were dripping from the nail wounds were also pleading, and God heard, and definitely forgave. “Father, forgive them, because they do not know what they are doing”- this was Christ’s prayer for you also. Do you think God may not answer Christ’s prayer? If God cannot answer the prayer of his only begotten son, what makes you think he can answer yours? The LORD’s prayer was answered, and as a result, you are forgiven! Receive it in Jesus’ name.
