District 7, the WPIAL came up big Friday night taking home two state championships, John Fullen the PIAA Board of Control Representative from District 7 had the pleasure of presenting the gold medals twice Friday night-to Lincoln Park (Class A boys) and Seton LsSalle (Class AA girls). Billl Gaffey (pahoops.org) and Fullen were teammates in two sports as they worked their way through Penn State in 1963-64. They both worked at the Rathskeller in State College, Fullen was the cook and Gaffey was the bartender. They worked the 5 to midnight shift five days a week. Fullen went on to an administrative career at Blackhawk High School, now in his 50th year in education, he is still the Athletic Director. Gaffey went on to a 39 year career in coaching and teaching. Pahoops says congratulations to District 7 and John Fullen- and congratulations to the Cumberland Valley girls who won (Class 4-A) behind Coach William Wolf, who became only the 7th high school coach in Pennsylvania basketball history to win the state title at two different schools-first CD, now CV- the other coaches who won the state championship at two schools were: -4, Dick Diethorn, St. James (3) / St. Canice (1), (both PCIAA schools) -2, J. Michael Bailey, Williamsport/ Bethel H. S. (VA) -2, Paul Birch, Homestead (1939)/ General Braddock (1973) -2, Bill Gaffey, Altoona Bishop Guilfoyle (1967)(PCIAA)/ Susquehanna Twp. (1980). -2, Patti Heffner, Catasauqua (1988) / Parkland (2006) -2-James (Lash) Nesser, Uniontown High/ Uniontown St. Johns (PCIAA) -2 William Wolf, Central Dauphin and Cumberland Valley (2014) find this and more at pahoops.org
