First, let me state that I am not in favor of violence, nor would I ever advocate that disenfranchised Americans take up arms against the sovereign state. Yet one has to ask, with all sincerity and with all due respect for the rule of law; what resort other than servile submission is left to those systematically deprived of their basic civil rights and subjugated by criminal force by the authorities themselves? It seems to me that we learned nothing from the racial struggles of the 1960s and that we are almost certainly embarking onto a deadly path toward widespread incidents of violence and racial strife. Someone mentioned in one of the threads tonight that the underclass is neither exclusively black, and that its ranks are growing exponentially to encompass many other people of color and ethnicity. The possibilities are awe-inspiring, and I find myself unable to argue against the logic impelling such groups toward more radical means toward seeking their basic rights and safety. The storm clouds are gathering, and people denying it are likely to get caught in the middle as it begins to unfold.
