Forbes released its annual list of the 400 wealthiest Americans on Monday. They’re worth a combined $2.29 trillion (up $270 billion from last year) – a 13 percent increase. These billionaires now own more wealth than the bottom half of America – over 150 million people. Meanwhile, while the very rich become richer, most Americans have become poorer. Median family income has declined by almost $5,000 since 1999 and over half of the American people have less than $10,000 in savings. Among the very richest Americans are the Koch Brothers – worth $84 billion. Abetted by the disastrous Citizens United Supreme Court decision, the Koch Brothers are now pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into political campaigns to elect candidates who will gut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and federal aid to education. “We need to stand up for working families of America and take on the billionaire class,” Bernie said in an interview with Thomas Frank for Salon.
