Heres is Mr Predictor! The 2014 FIFA World Cup is finally here; a whole month of soccer heaven awaits us, as the worlds best players gather in Brazil for what promises to be a summer spectacular! Where else could I possibly focus my attention this week, other than the likes of Brasília, São Paulo and the famous Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro? But what are my predictions? Read on to find out... Colombia vs Greece – Saturday 14th June - FIFA World Cup Colombia suffered a huge blow when it was announced that Radamel Falcao would not be in the final squad, as he still isnt fully recovered after a recent cruciate ligament injury. The Monaco star will be a massive loss to the Colombians, but I expect the likes of Jackson Martinez to step up and fill the void. Greece dont score many, so I predict a defeat for Euro 2004 winners, but they dont concede too many either, so it wont be a rout. Mr Predictors Verdict: Colombia 2 vs 0 Greece - (Long List selection 4) Uruguay vs Costa Rica – Saturday 14th June - FIFA World Cup Cavani, Forlán and Suárez has to be one of the most terrifying attacking line ups in world football, but despite this, they only managed to score 3 goals in their recent World Cup warm up games against lowly Northern Ireland and Slovenia. The last time these two sides played a competitive game was in qualifying for the 2010 World Cup and the game ended a 1-1 draw. Despite all the hype about Uruguay and their attack, I predict that Costa Rica will run them close. Mr Predictors Verdict: Uruguay 1 vs 0 Costa Rica - (Long List selection 1) England vs Italy – Saturday 14th June - FIFA World Cup An intriguing match between the sides currently ranked 10th and 9th by FIFA at the moment, which is very difficult to call. It will be a tight affair, almost certainly low scoring given how toothless Englands attack has looked in recent friendly matches and given Italys reputation as a solid defensive unit. Italy are a more technical side and the vast experience of players like Pirlo, Buffon and Daniele De Rossi will give the Azzurri the edge in this one. Mr Predictors Verdict: England 0 vs 1 Italy - (Long List selection 2) France vs Honduras – Sunday 15th June - FIFA World Cup The loss of Ribery to injury is a heavy blow to what is one of the weakest French squads for some time. They recently slipped up against Paraguay, after a 4-0 demolition job against Norway, which underlines how inconsistent the French can be. Honduras will take encouragement from a goalless draw with England, as well as the fact that France have begun each of the last 3 World Cup campaigns poorly. I predict a shock result in this one. Mr Predictors Verdict: France 1 vs 1 Honduras - (Long List selection 3) Argentina vs Bosnia & Herzegovina - Sunday 15th June - FIFA World Cup Bosnia will be pleased with recent wins over Mexico and the Ivory Coast and with the likes of Manchester Citys Džeko in the team, they are capable of scoring goals. However, Argentina can call on a squad full of incredible talent, with the likes of Messi, Higuaín and, Agüero at their disposal and they will surely have too much for their opponents. A recent friendly between the two sides ended in a 2-0 win for the South Americans and I predict a repeat performance here. Mr Predictors Verdict: Argentina 2 vs 0 Bosnia & Herzegovina - (Long List selection 4) Germany vs Portugal - Monday 16th June - FIFA World Cup This contest is absolutely fascinating and could easily be one of the most entertainng matches of the tournament. Germany are currently ranked as the 2nd best side in the world, while Portugal are 4th and count arguably the best player in the world amongst their squad. The Germans might not be as strong as in previous tournaments, but their squad is hugely experienced and they always perform on the big stage, while Ronaldo and company are not exactly terrible themselves. I predict a close match with plenty of goals. Mr Predictors Verdict: Germany 3 vs 2 Portugal - (Long List selection 1) Iran vs Nigeria - Monday 16th June - FIFA World Cup Nigeria are a tough team to predict - some days they look capable of beating big sides like when drawing 2-2 with Italy in November, but other times they look dont look so sharp in front of goal, like in their recent draw with Greece. They are tough to beat though and will have more than enough for Iran, who dont score many goals. I predict a win for the Super Eagles, but its not going to be a goal fest. Mr Predictors Verdict: Iran 0 vs 1 Nigeria - (Long List selection 2) Ghana vs USA - Monday 16th June - FIFA World Cup The Black Stars were beaten by Montenegro recently and have struggled for goals of late, while the Americans have scored twice in all of their last 4 matches. Ghana are rated as favourites to win, but I can see the United States emerging victorious in this one. Mr Predictors Verdict: Ghana 0 vs 2 USA - (Long List selection 5)
