I would like to throw something out there for anyone to comment. Last night on ABC, Dancing With The Stars was interrupted by a 48 second Special Report by ABC News on the bombing of ISIS in Syria. The report simply told the viewer that the bombing had begun and that viewers could get more information by logging onto ABCnews web page. Due to a technical glitch, the rejoin back to regular programing was messed up and the viewer was forced to watch an ABC Logo slide for approximately 15 seconds before Dancing With The Stars returned. My thought is that perhaps premiere week was not the right time to interrupt for a special report that although important, was not necessarily a stop the presses kind of story. I also wonder if News Executives understand that years ago, before there was the internet, twitter, Facebook, 24 hour cable news channels, the major 3 networks were the only way to find out about a breaking news story. Today, it seems that there are so many ways to get updated on news it just seems absurd to interrupt regular entertainment programming with special reports that perhaps are not quite as special as the producer or anchorman think they are. I certainly see the need to interrupt for a 911 type story, an assassination, a terrorist attack, or perhaps the end of the world. Lately, it just seemed like we are going on with Special Reports all the time. Thats just my opinion, wondering what everyone else thinks.
