It has taken me over three years of planning to get around to producing what may be the first 30 second Public Service announcement that promotes Route 66 tourism ever made....and this is a rough idea as to what it will look like. These early photo/storyboard images are in order and in black and white, and feature a 1928 Ford Model A pick-up pulling onto the highway from a barn, then passing an old filling station with the attendant waving, then passing a church with several locals waving, then passing the old schoolhouse with kids playing and waving, then passing the general store and onto an actual portion of Route 66...passing an authentic Missouri US 66 sign. As the driver approaches the curve, the footage fades to full color as a young couple in a convertible approach...each driver waving at the other as they pass. The music score has been selected but the narration script is still being worked-on. I hope to do the shooting by mid-October and will need some locals to dress in period attire, a couple with a convertible and several to do some traffic control. The message I plan to send to viewers is one of nostalgia and that people are just as friendly on the Route today as they were over eighty years ago....and that the Route is drivable and an adventure. I plan to post the PSA on YouTube, send it to National Networks including the Travel Channel and the like. It will also be downloadable to any TV or Cable network, and also on DVD for local broadcast use. Once the raw footage clips have been selected, I will post them followed by various stages of post production. This may also be the first of several more PSAs that will focus on a Road Trip theme, and another directed a families and kids. Thanks.
