John 11: 19-27 and Luke 10: 38-42 Prayer: Teach me Lord to truly love myself Thoughts: We should be all familiar with the story involving the two sisters Martha and Mary; Jesus had gone to visit their house and Mary sat with Jesus while Martha busied herself getting things in place for His visit. When she complained to Jesus, his response was that Mary was doing what she needed to do and probably the best thing also. But there is another story of Mary and Martha and it involves the death and rising from the dead of their brother Lazarus. It is actually Martha who goes to Jesus and brings Lazarus’ death to His attention and speaks out and declares she knows Jesus can do something to help. Besides it being her feast day I felt it had to be highlighted that Martha being the way that she was, was used by God for good. We can speculate possibly while she worked on her busy body nature He would use it for good or that Jesus was asking for a balance or wisdom in knowing when to be active and when to be quiet. Many of us when we get into God and more importantly church we begin to want to rip ourselves apart in a bid to be more holy or more accepted. So for some people they are too quiet and appear to be ‘ashamed’ of worshipping their God and then others are too busy and too loud. Grant it there may be a need for the stepping out of one’s comfort zone but God will direct how that is done and when it needs to be done. Too many people end up leaving church or coming off their spiritual journey because it may have seemed that who they are or were was not acceptable to God and they had to change. Always remember, anything God asks, once you are ready and He only puts tasks before us when we are, you will experience peace. When the change happens in this manner reversion becomes less of a possibility. Just remember He knows you and loves you and if change is being demanded it is not because He does not love you but more that it will make your journey easier and even move you closer to Him. Happy Feast Day to all the Marthas I know there are many of us out there.
