Meet Leilo, she is a wild Dingo pup who was found near death in a very emaciated condition. She weighed 1.6kilos when she was found and after having spent several days at the vets on a drip, and in the loving arms of a beautiful carer, she is now Improving in health and doubled her weight and is delightful, although still not tame nor trusting of humans. The Dingo plight is something that is very dear to me and also breaks my heart. These Wildies struggle to survive and a couple of years ago, they were deleted off the Flora and Fauna register and as far as any law exists, they dont exist and they dont come under the dog act as they are not a dog. Laying of baits laced with 1080 poison is getting more frequent and our pure Dingos are dying out and being replaced with feral crossbreed dogs - that are generally dumped bush. Dingos are Australias top order predator and keep the native environment in check, they keep the feral cats under control who do far more damage than Dingos could ever manage in over 4,000 years of being on this land. It is getting harder and harder to return these animals to the wild, there is no where they can go. They either get shot out or poisoned. It is an interesting dilemma, do you set them free and hope they make it or do you try and tame them and rehome them into peoples homes and hope they make it In society. These little beings have a bloodline that goes on before you and I can even imagine, I think it is worth keeping up the fight to have the purebreds as a protected species in Australia. Leilos mum was killed by poison and she can not be returned home to her country as it has been totally burnt out.. Bless you little Leilo for your teachings and for opening and touching the hearts of those you have connected with.
