Okay, so I never really had to worry about this with Gabby, her being my first. But it has come up on more than one occasion and the vast majority of people I spoke with do not know. Yes, Car seats have an expiration date. It is usually 5 years from the manufactured date that is on the bottom or side. Some seats have a 6 year life span. The reason for this is that the car seat is made of plastic. You know the plastic lawn furniture and how over time it weakens and begins to break. The same logic applies to car seats. They are mainly in hot vehicles that slowly warp the plastic, making them unsafe and brittle over time. The manufacturer can not guarantee the quality of the product after 5 years (or 6) depending on the brand. Just a little PSA. =)
