Pathology reports came back this afternoon with all the - TopicsExpress

Pathology reports came back this afternoon with all the information the doctors have been waiting for. They decided to start Eden on a drug called Rituximab. It will destroy the b cells in her body, both cancerous and normal cells. At this point, she will have NO B cells and T cells (which are already targeted by the Prograf), leaving her with no immune system and very susceptible to infections. She will receive this infusion once weekly for four weeks. The hem/onc dr said this can be done as outpatient weekly infusions, so well come up with a plan tomorrow with the team. At least today, it sounded like Eden would need to be here for at least FOUR weeks. She just finished her first infusion. It made her very nauseated, so she spent the beginning gagging but was able to sleep and they were able to advance the rate so the infusion would finish sooner. This drug is well-tolerated according to the surgeon but has nasty side effects that well see both immediately and later after shes been on it for some time. For now, this is the plan to fix the fevers, PTLD and issues shes having with her gut. If she continues to have issues, shell need to be scoped and rechecked for rejection.
