Some may call it coincidence; I would like to call it God putting us where we need to be at the time we need to be there. This type of thing has become apparent to us in several ways throughout our two year long ordeal. 1. God set us up just perfectly at the right time with the right resources. 2. It happened as Mike was being transferred from one hospital to the other the days following the accident. 3. It happened once in the hospital when a burn victim came to visit me in the hospital because she saw me on the news and felt drawn to me. 4. And TODAY is just another example of it. After a long crappy night of no sleep and Mike unable to get comfortable in any position to stop his back pain, I decided to throw in the towel and take him to the hospital (we both needed sleep). Now Mike has only seen KU Med doctors since the explosion in 2013. A doc for his arm, a doc for his burns, a doc for his collar bone, a doc for pain, a doc for his back, a doc for his hearing, and a doc to control his diabetes since it went wacky after the accident. All of Mike’s workmans comp insurance info and all his files to date are at KU med. Weve never been anywhere else! Soooooo....We thought the smartest thing to do was to drive all the way to KU emergency room for this crazy pain (This would make us pass 2 different hospitals on the way). We check in, we go through triage; we sit in the waiting room. Ive never been in this part of KU before. It had been about an hour or so when I decide to ask the nurse what the expected time frame will be. Im not in a huge hurry just a bit uncomfortable and Mike is just barely hanging in there. She explains that the wait will be hours because not only is the hospital near capacity, but the emergency rooms are full at that time. We decide to scrap our time lost and go to a different hospital. I call St. Lukes North and they are also really busy. Then I call NKC Hospital which is usually always crazy busy, but they only have two people waiting. Sooooo....off to NKC we go. We wait for about 15 minutes to see triage, 40 minutes to get into a room, 30 minutes to see a doc, 20 minutes to get Mikes shot in the Butt-tocks, they have him chill in the room for another 1.5 hours, we wait for some prescription meds for about 30 minutes....AND FINALLY!!!! Mike is feeling a bit better and we are headed home! Hallelujah!!!!! If anyone has been to the new emergency room location at NKC hospital you will quickly find out that parking is CRAP! Either you get a close space right at the doors, you park across and down the street in the visitors parking, or....you park up on a hill (a bit closer) but with only stairs to climb down. (No handicap ramps anymore????). As we walk out there is a little old lady who can barely walk on flat solid ground let alone try to walk down stairs. When I jog over to her, she is frozen, hanging on to a rail for dear life, and just staring down the stairs with hopelessness. I offer to help her get down the stairs but she knows once she gets down, aint NO WAY shes get back up them. She explains she dropped her husband off at the door (as he is having chest pains) and then had to park up top. It is the closest spots. She looks at me, exhales, and says to me, God brought you to me at the right time. You must be the angel he sent to me when he knew I needed help WOW! Anyway, I drove her car down to the emergency room entrance, drove her car to the closest parking space I could find across the street. Mike ran me back in the truck so I could give her keys back to her. She hugged me, (a kind gentle grandma type hug), and said Thank you so very much, God bless you. So could it have just been coincidence? Sure. Could it have been anyone who helped her? Sure. But I’d like to give all my thanks to God for letting me be the one to hear those words from her after I knew she was safe. I will also give all my thanks to God for allowing me to feel like I had made a difference (even if it as a small one).
