The Milwaukee County Farmers Market is right around the corner…actually, the first market is this Saturday, November 1st, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will once again be located in the beautiful Milwaukee Domes, joined by more than 3 dozen amazing vendors. There is no admission fee and no parking fee! This is a list of the items we will have on hand at certain times throughout the winter market: - Bronze Ranger chickens, whole and cut up - Pork (chops, roasts, tenderloin, country ribs, brats and patties, ground and Italian ground, breakfast sausages, bacon, deli ham, hocks and lard) - Beef (roasts (chuck, sirloin tip, rolled rump), steaks (tenderloin, ribeye, New York strip, sirloin, Swiss), brisket, short ribs, stew meat, garlic summer sausage, snack sticks, ground beef and patties) - Turkey (breasts, legs, thighs, wings and ground) For this first market, November 1st, we will have all of the chicken, beef and turkey items you see listed above. The only maybes are the pork and the ground turkey. If our butcher can get everything done for us, we will have the ground turkey, AND the pork will be fresh! By SPECIAL REQUEST, we will also bring our Cornish Cross chickens (whole or cut up), plus we have an amazing supply of breasts (bone-in and boneless), leg/thigh combos and wings. If you desire any of these special-request items, just send us an E-mail during any given week, and we will bring them to the market for you. What’s the difference between the Bronze Ranger chickens and the Cornish Cross chickens, you ask? Well, they are both delicious! We honestly cant say which breed we prefer on our dinner table, although we have certain customers that have developed a preference for one over the other. The Bronze Ranger has a very robust chicken flavor. It is a slower-growing bird, taking 2-3 weeks longer to reach full size, which is approximately 3-4 pounds. The ratio of dark to white meat is more proportional, with a smaller breast size. On the other hand, the Cornish Cross is a chicken that is bred to have larger breasts and, thus, a lot of white meat. The average size of each bird is 4 to 5-1/2 pounds. Youll just have to try them both to see if you have a preference! We will have the Bronze Rangers every Saturday at the winter market, and, again, we will bring the Cornish Cross (whole, cut-ups or parts) only by special request. Please visit our facebook page regularly for updates on what meat items are readily available, specials we may be running, our latest and greatest dinner recipes, etc. Hope to see you soon at the Milwaukee County Winter Farmers Market!
