The countdown has begun and the new school year is just around the corner. With the realignment of our schools, we are all traveling down a new road together. With new adventures come questions.....please ask them. This page is set up for information gathering and dispersing, as well as questions and answers. So....I posted this on the SWR community page in regards to the letter we all received about supply drop off..... In the past, the day before school started was always a day when kids could come and drop off supplies, and in the past, there was a new student orientation for kids that have never been in the school about two weeks prior. The socials at the end of the last school year were meant to introduce the children to their new school. ... this year is a huge year of change, and we are all adjusting the best we can. Due to safety concerns it is in the best interest of the kids not to be in the school for an orientation..... And for supply drop off, some of these teachers have over 130 boxes to empty. So I understand that as well. As a parent of four I understand we want our young ones to have an incredibly smooth transition into school. I too am somewhat disappointed the children arent going the day before, but I know our staff.....they treat our most prized possessions as if they were their own......they have things in place to allow for the smoothest transition possible.... With that being said, I am currently at the school and can tell you it is in complete Construction mode! They are currently working on the main entrance security vestibule. This will be a series of doors that youll have to be buzzed into, an extra layer of security for our children! There are still tons of boxes scattered throughout the hallways and classrooms. Teachers are trickling in little by little to get a first glimpse of their new home. There are tarps taped to ceilings and walls to keep the construction contained to certain areas. The front parking lot is also partially ripped up. It is simply not a safe environment for children to be walking in. In regards to the back blacktop area. It has been fenced off and parking spots have been painted on. Yes, cars will be parked there. From what i understand, these parking spaces were required with the change. The children still have a big beautiful playground, as well as a huge field to play on...... I believe we have an amazing staff at miller avenue, and blacktop or no blacktop, supply drop off or no supply drop off....this is going to be an amazing year creating life long memories!
