These are the guys I need in my backyard for a month this fall. They rake up large piles of leaves then lay their eggs in the composting heap to incubate. It is believed they use their tongue to sense the temperature to monitor and regulate the heat. Aborigines say that when the horsefly color turns from brown to black the eggs are ready to hatch. Australian Brush-turkey. Note the side ways tail to help move through the dense rainforest brush. The males are very territorial to other males. Daintree River Preserve, AU - 10/2014
