This is an observation more than a complaint. In the past you could depend on reporters from all media to have a sense of history about prior events in the city. In the last 20 years, between the churning of employees and younger folks coming on board, the media has lost any historical foundation. Its not the fault of the newer reporters. I see many have used Lost Des Moines as a resource, and I would too. But when I listened to WHO yesterday afternoon, Simon whatever his name is asked people about their memories of Younkers, he had none because he was from England. His producer had none because she is 25 and lived in the burbs and never went downtown. So listening to them talk about the subject with zero first-hand knowledge seemed hollow at best. At this point, there is no real local media outlet that has much of any collective memory of our city. And that is a bit sad.
