Today, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) released a study showing that in 2012, cruising continued to not only be a fun and affordable vacation option, but also a growing contributor to the economy. According to the report, the North American cruise industry generated 356,311 jobs and paid $17.4 billion in wages to U.S. workers. The North American cruise industry benefited every state in the nation through direct purchases of goods and services. Additionally, CLIA’s member lines and their passengers and crew contributed over $42 billion in total U.S. economic impact, a 4.6 percent increase from 2011! The study also revealed the cruise industry’s economic impact on ten key states.
