Today at work a young boy and his father were shopping and accidentally broke a bottle of juice on the floor. While people in customer service were cleaning up the spill, I jokingly said to the boy, now you have to pay us for cleaning up your mess and now its an extra 20 dollars because you got it on your dads jeans! He looked at me and said, but I only have 10 dollars! I told him I was only kidding and we laughed and parted ways. I began straightening up the apples when I noticed a crumpled up 10 dollar bill. I grabbed it and took it to the boy and asked if he had lost his 10 dollars. He said yes and that he had forgotten it when the juice fell. His father said thank you and that its hard to find honest people in the world. I told the boy to hang on tight to it so he Doesnt misplace it again. Twenty minutes later I was called up to the customer service desk. The little boy wanted to see me. He referred to me as the nice lady. He said thank you again and then his dad said, if it werent for you, my son would be home crying because he lost his only money. I am going to buy you dinner. I politely declined his offer twice and then he insisted and handed me 40 dollars. My manager said I could keep it although we are not supposed to keep tips. This just goes to show that being honest and good hearted pays off.
