Wounds of Babri Masjid Demolition Are Still Fresh In Our Hearts: MBT Leaders Hyderabad, December 2: December 6 will be remembered forever as the Black Day in the history of Indian democracy. For the last 22 years, almost all Indians, especially the Muslims, have been expressing their anguish over the illegal act of demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. It was an act by the activists of Sangh Parivar which brought shame to an entire nation, which had earlier surprised the rest of the world with its policy of secularism. Before the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in 1992, India gave to the world a perfect example of how different religions can co-exist peacefully. Despite having minor disputes, the religious tempers were always kept in control. However, in some places, some politicians with vested interests, engineered communal riots and led attacks on the places of worship. Except for the genocide of Muslims in Gujarat in 2002 under the regime of Narendra Modi, the president Prime Minister, the riots at other places did not last long. Indians dont believe in violence of any kind. That is the reason why Indian cities, towns and villages had witnessed more peaceful days compared to violent times. While it is highly condemnable that thousands of innocent people were killed in hundreds of communal riots, the fact needs appreciation that Crores of Hindus and Muslims have been living peacefully in the lanes and by-lanes of this great nation since independence. The Babri Masjid demolition was meticulously planned and executed by the parties associated with the Sangh Parivar. Over 1.50 lakh Kar Sevaks were assembled at Ayodhya on December 6, 1992, and the local BJP Government led by Kalyan Singh not only remained a mute spectator but connived with the rioters to demolish the historic mosque. Hundreds of security personnel, who witnessed the demolition, did not move an inch from their places as they had no instructions from their political bosses to stop the demolition. The Congress Government at the Centre led by P V Narasimha Rao too remained inert. The then Prime Minister did not exercise his executive powers to stop the demolition. It was not a spontaneous act of violence. It was a planned and organized crime. Thousands of Sangh Parivar activists gathered in Ayodhya with a devilish mission to demolish the mosque. They also brought the necessary equipments to execute their plan. The BJP leaders present on the dais incited them further with provocative speeches and slogans. The demolition was wrongly linked to the restoration of their prestige, which they alleged was robbed after Mir Baqui, the General of Mughal Emperor Babur, build the mosque in 1528. Neither the Kar Sevaks, who took part in the demolition, nor those, who led them to commit this heinous act, were aware of the real history. Fabricated tales were floated in various forms to claim that the Babri Masjid was built after demolishing a temple at the Ram Janmbhoomi. They did not even honour the Supreme Court which ordered a status quo and was hearing the case. The then BJP Government of Uttar Pradesh gave an undertaking to the apex court that no subversive activity would take place. Even before the courts pronounced their verdict on the ownership of the land, the Sangh Parivar activists demolished the mosque. This act of desperation proved that the Sangh Parivar was afraid of losing its case in a court of law. It was afraid that the courts would expose that its claims on Babri Masjid were wrong. It had apprehensions that it would not be able to cheat the masses any more in the name of religion. Even after 22 years, the wounds of demolition of Babri Masjid are still fresh. The secular Indians, especially the Muslims, are expecting final justice from the Supreme Court. More than four years after the Lucknow bench of High Court delivered its judgment in the Babri Masjid case, the full-fledged hearing on the land ownership case is yet to begin in the Supreme Court. On September 30, 2010, the Lucknow bench of High Court comprising Justices S U Khan, Sudhir Agarwal and D V Sharma gave its verdict trifurcating 1500 square yards of Babri Masjid land among Sunni Central Waqf Board, Nirmohi Akhara and Ramlala. Not satisfied with the verdict, all three contenders moved the Supreme Court and got stay on the High Court decision. The Sunni Waqf Board was the first to challenge the verdict in January 2011. Later, the other parties also approached the apex court. But it now appears that an early judicial solution to the Babri Masjid case is not possible due to several factors. The primary reason being cited by some analyst is the non-availability of records. Many records, both original and digital copies are yet to reach the Supreme Court from the High Court. The volume of these records runs into approximately 10,000 pages. After the submission of all records, the translation of documents from Hindi and Urdu into English would take at least one year. The legal battle for the title claim of Babri Masjid began from Faizabad District Court in 1950 and the country is still waiting for its final judgment by the Supreme Court. The parties in power have been abusing law to delay the case further. For instance, the Uttar Pradesh Government denied permission to a CBI Special Court hearing the Babri Masjid demolition case from visiting the Babri Masjid site on November 15 to collect evidences and inspect the spot. CBI special judge S M Tiwari along with a CBI team and counsel of the accused and prosecution wrote to Faizabad administration for the visit to the place where Babri Masjid existed till December 6, 1992. An order passed by the special judge on October 20 said, The presiding officer including the lawyers of defence and prosecution will visit the site of Babri Masjid on November 15. However, Faizabad Divisional Commissioner and receiver of Babri Masjid/Ram Janam Bhumi site, Vishal Chauhan, said the CBI court had to take permission for its visit from Supreme Court, as the apex court has banned the entry of any person other than a priest of disputed Ram temple shrine, where Babri Masjid existed earlier. This court is trying 21 accused allegedly involved in the demolition of Babri Masjid, include BJP MPs Brij Bhushan Singh, Sakshi Maharaj, Lallu Singh, Dharmendra Pradhan and Shiv Sena leaders Pawan Pandey and Santosh Dubey in case session trial number 344/94. In view of above facts, the MBT demands speedy trial of both the title case of Babri Masjid and cases against the accused responsible for its demolition. To press for these demands, the MBT is organizing Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Bandh on December 6 and request all to observe the occasion as ‘Black Day’ as it has been doing since demolition of Babri Masjid. The MBT has organised a Protest Public Meeting on 3rd Dec 2014 at Azam Function Hall, Moghalpura and appeals to the Public to attend in large numbers.
