iWe live in n country today that no longer wants to hear of Christ from the Christian. The reasons for this are many. Some simply will not accept the Gospel. Being told of Him challenges their freedom to sin. Some believe that faith is a personal thing one should not share; “to each his own” is the prevailing attitude of their hearts desire. Some are fed up with the multiplicity of Christian sects they think no one really knows the truth. Some simply do not want to admit they were wrong and that they need to change; many self proclaimed believers are in this category, but Christ may very well say “I never knew you” to most of those. There is no complacency in the cross (Luke 9:23). Christianity has become complacent where it does not take a stand against the great tides of secularism and worldliness. Many believe we should go along to get along. It seems so much more hospitable to have a testimony accepted by the community instead of being different, set apart and unique in our faith with Christ. Wasn’t Paul all things to all men? But, Paul never compromises on doctrine only on operation. Paul takes very stern stands against sinful men and sinful activities (Romans 3:4). He even stands firm against activities that, though not sinful themselves, can lead to others stumbling into sin (1 Corinthians 8:9). Therefore, as our Lord did in John 1:11, we must make our positions known and stand firm on the straight forward doctrines of God. Scripture tells us that Jesus was rejected by people who were supposed to be seeking the Messiah. We should never be afraid of rejection by man as we stand firmly for Christ on clear doctrine, even from believers who claim Christ. Our Savior certainly did not fear rejection. One vital doctrine we must cling to with great tenacity is that fear is sinful. Fear is frequently disguised in complacency. God does not give us the spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Any contemplation based in fear and trepidation comes from another spirit. Anxiety over anything is in direct violation of Philippians 4:6 and shows a lack of faith in God denying His word in Luke 1:37; with God nothing is impossible. Complacency is not God’s design, but Satan’s. Every believer should go about the work of the ministry for Christ without fear (Eph 4:12)
