All-American Boy singer Steve Grand connects with crowd at Palm Springs Pride TVs Ross Mathews headlined parade at weekend event in California desert 04 November 2013 | By Greg Hernandez Photo by Greg Hernandez Singer Steve Grand was one of the main attractions at Palm Springs Pride, a two-day event in the California desert city that included an official festival, several block parties and scores of unofficial celebrations. The singer, whose All-American Boy video became a viral hit on YouTube last summer, did a handful of songs for hundreds of fans who crowded around an outdoor stage - many recording his every move for YouTube videos of their own. I wrote this song and put it out there on my own, he told the crowd on Saturday (2 November) before ending his set with All-American Boy. Grand, 23, has been appearing at various pride events in recent months including in his home city of Chicago. He told the crowd he had flown in a short time earlier on very little sleep. But his performance was energetic and he did not leave the concert area until having his photo taken with each of the fans who had waited - and there were hundreds of them. Also performing Saturday night at a block party on Arenas Road - the citys gay strip - was Glee star Alex Newell. On Sunday (3 November), thousands crowded along Palm Canyon Drive for the Greater Palm Springs Pride Parade where Ross Mathews of The Tonight Show and Chelsea Lately fame was celebrity grand marshal. Mathews, who has a getaway home in the city, interacted with the crowd frequently as he road down the street sitting up on the back seat of a convertible. The pride events were scattered throughout the citys downtown area and at Palm Springs Stadium where there was music, an authors village and booths set up by various vendors and community groups.
