Alrighty, feeling better! So - the desert ecology trip out to the Sturt Stoney and Strzelecki deserts was AWESOME!! Got some wicked sightings of species I have never encountered before...including the rare GREY FALCON!!! Aaah yeah!! Spent most of my time doing the 3 Bs: birds, bats, bugs! Species lists will be entered in the comments below. The trip parrot list hit 20, including a sighting of my all time favourite BLUE BONNETS!! By far the most incredible moments though were with my beloved little microbats - several new species for me, in addition to learning call frequencies and how to set up/take down harp traps all on my own. Other activities included some pit fall trapping, mark-recapture studies, camera trapping, and the epic feral cat stake out where my good friend Helenna and I cornered Blacky Mac Laser-eyes in a metal pipe with his baby goat carcass. Great mix of people from all different walks: ornithologists, budding botanists, wildlife managers, ecological consultants, herpetologists, even a guy who digs up dinosaurs (but Caaaaarl)!!! Ill need to make a separate post for all the shenanigans that were had with a select group of awesome-sauce people...you know who you are, you rascals! From serious environmental work to playing cricket in three states at Cameron Corner as the elusive grey falcon soared overhead, the whole trip had many a highlight. None so incredible as the desert storm that rolled in on the second last night and offered all of 3 minutes relief and hippy dancing time to some very relieved students! All in all, awesome times were had. Stay tuned for species lists!
