American Sniper Review : I first heard about and saw Chris Kyle on Conan when came for a interview on Youtube and subsequently on googling found to my shock that he was killed by a friend in a shooting range no less. American Sniper is Old man Eastwoods take on Chris Kyles story and it did not miss a beat. This is not a feel good movie, it is a portrait of one mans life and those that surrounded him. These consisted of his brothers in arms, his family, those that he fought and those that he killed. For him there is no glory in the tag Americas greatest sniper. His job was simple to save the lives of those he could. He did this with honor, courage and he did this better than most humans could. While Clint Eastwood didnt break any ground with direction, I do believe he was a perfect choice for this film and did an incredible job telling Kyles story without putting politics on the screen. This is a rough story to watch no matter your political views ... war is hell on all sides. If Eastwood put politics in the film I believe the audience would have lost the purpose of the piece. This is a movie that liberals, conservatives, libertarians, and I-dont-knowins can appreciate. Bradley Cooper is as convincing as an actor can be. You dont feel him acting, you just see person, which Cooper impersonates before you. You see his emotions, deeply hidden, but glimpsing from the depth. And there are choices, Kyle made. Choices, about which we, civilians, even dont want to think about. We are mostly living in imaginary world, hiding from horrors of reality. Well, soldiers cant hide from it - they must face it or theyll die. They must make choices, horrible, inhuman in terms of civilized behavior. And many of them became broken, actually losing their humanity in the process. I honestly went into this movie thinking there was no way Bradley Cooper could portray Chris Kyle, but was totally wrong in my assumptions. He didnt just portray this larger than life hero, he becomes him. Truly amazing piece of work. There really isnt that much to say about this film but if your a fan of war films then I would highly recommend checking this film out.
