Are you satisfied with your life as a whole? If you were to - TopicsExpress

Are you satisfied with your life as a whole? If you were to scale it on a 1 to 10 , what score would you give it? (10 being highly satisfied and 1 being opposite) When people in the UK were asked if they were satisfied with their lives, they scored an average 30% lower than people in 1950 Why is this and what can we learn from it? Well, you dont need to be a rocket scientist to work out that ever since the dawn of modern media, our subconscious minds been flooded with images of other peoples lives play out in front of us No longer was our own life good enough. We started to want more because we were told it was going to make us happier and fulfilled. Big houses, beautiful bodies, big important high paying jobs with long important difficult to pronounce words before and after them, holidays to exotic destinations, the latest must have gadgets and shiny new cars. But when you strip away the fuzz, the stuff, the needlessness that surrounds us every day, you realise why people in 1950 were more satisfied with life. They didnt know any other way. There was a stillness, a calm, a level of peace from which the simplicity of healthy food, love and laugher made up a life. Sure there were inevitable ups and downs but there wasnt the background static of dissatisfaction that has seeped in to the heart of todays society. Its not a complex, mysterious, magical answer to this problem either. We cant change todays society and thats missing the point anyway (stuff and things outside of us are fine on their own). No, no. What Im trying to translate is that no matter what house you end up in, no matter how successful you become, no matter how much weight you lose ... youre still you. Your thoughts are still yours to think, your feelings are still yours to feel and your life is still yours to live. Be here now and dont let the expectations of society get in the way of how you want to govern your life **Tomorrow, I will explain why the good enough philosophy is so important for achieving success in any area of your life (from love to career)** Will (dog walker, surfer, looking forward to an evening of simple pleasures)
