Back in the early 1960s French President Charles de Gaulle came up - TopicsExpress

Back in the early 1960s French President Charles de Gaulle came up with the idea for a series of events where French and German youth could participate in friendly competitions, playing funny games to reinforce the friendship between the two countries. Those events grew into the European tv series Jeux Sans Frontieres. In the UK (and in Australia, eventually) it was called Its a Knockout. In 1980 Peter Gabriel wrote a song about the childish way nations can act around each other. Now, 1980 was an Olympic year, so Games Without Frontiers was a pretty apt title. In fact, as though to prove his point, 1980 was the year of the Moscow Olympics, which were boycotted by a whopping 65 countries over Russias invasion of Afghanistan. (Australia was one of the countries that did not boycott, but still only managed to come 15th in the medal tally.) Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush have been friends for a long time, and it was she who sang Jeux sans frontieres on the song. (She also sang backup on another song from the same album.). Somehow she managed to pronounce Jeux to rhyme with She, leading to a million misheard lyrics. Or at least 46, according to kissthisguy. Personally, I think it sounds a bit like shes saying Shes so opulent. What do YOU think? https://youtube/watch?v=scdZEL1xySc
