CES Principal to Retire After 22 Years with SCSD Posted: Fri, Mar 28, 2014 As the end of the school year draws near, the District would like to recognize Kathy Browning for her dedication and leadership to our students and staff. Kathy will be retiring after twenty-two years of service at Stevenson-Carson. Kathy grew up in Glenrock, Wyoming, a small town in the middle of oil wells and strip coal mines. She graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1973 and served as teacher and then assistant principal for the Converse County School District #2, in her hometown. During her tenure as a teacher, she was the assistant girls volleyball coach, head swim coach and head girls basketball coach at the high school level. The Glenrock Herders won the State Girls Swimming Championship three times under her direction. She earned her master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Wyoming during her seven years as the assistant principal at Glenrock High School. After serving as a teacher, coach and administrator for fifteen years in her hometown, Kathy moved to San Diego to pursue a PhD in education at San Diego State University and the Claremont Graduate School. She completed all phases of the PhD except the dissertation and after completing her coursework, looked for a job as a principal in a small district. This brought her to SCSD. Kathy was hired in 1992 to serve as the Wind River Middle School principal and did so until the fall of 2011. During the 2011-2012 school year, she acted as both the WRMS and CES principal as the District worked to close the building and move WRMS to SHS. She has been the CES Principal for the past two years. Kathy has served as the District’s curriculum administrator for many years, spearheaded bringing MAP testing to the district and is currently the program director for the Hi-Cap and ELL programs. Kathy has been a mainstay in our District and will be truly missed. Please help us thank her for twenty-two years of service and dedication to our District, community and students.
