Dear Family and Friends, Today is the first day in 28 working - TopicsExpress

Dear Family and Friends, Today is the first day in 28 working days that Im not driving to Sloan Kettering in NYC. My radiation treatments are DONE! Just a brief update. I do not glow in the dark despite the gazillion chemicals in my body. The doctors, nurses, techs, and staff at Sloan Kettering are caring dedicated people. Im grateful for their service. Im also grateful for Jennifer Murray putting up with all my crankiness in this illness. BTW, Id rather commute in Philly any day compared to NYC, but Im grateful to be living this close to Sloan Kettering. I will be experiencing side effects from chemo and radiation for about another six weeks but, little by little, Im seeing my desk and office cleared of a years backlog of stuff. The saints at Our Redeemer have been examples of Christian love, taking up the slack when I was down and providing transportation and meals as needed. It was great to hear members of the community preach the gospel. We were renewed by the power of the Holy Spirit through them. Im also grateful for the continuing joy of music in this community. When I couldnt sing the liturgy, others filled in. Singing with the choir every week was a joyful healing experience lifting me out of depression into the peace and love of Christ beyond understanding. I wont know the results of this year of treatment for at least another six weeks. Certainly the symptoms I was experiencing are gone but that doesnt necessarily mean the cancer is gone. This has been a year of learning to live mindfully in uncertainty, something a planner like me finds difficult. Ive had to rest in the love of Christ instead of the illusion of my own abilities. Your cards, gifts, and phone calls have helped support me in this illness. I have found that there are true blessings in these challenging times, and those blessings all come from you. Thank you for your caring grace and love. Peggy
