Dear Honors students, My name is Ritti Singh, and I am the - TopicsExpress

Dear Honors students, My name is Ritti Singh, and I am the president of the Honors Student Council. I hope that youve had a great start to your semester! We are very excited about all of the opportunities and events we have lined up for you. Our first meeting of the semester will be Wednesday, February 4 at noon in 6-331 (the Honors classroom on the right). Professor Ofsowitz, Associate Professor of Psychology and Co-Chair of Scholars Day, will be stopping by to discuss Scholars Day and original student research at MCC. If you are interested in student research or Scholars Day, definitely stop by this meeting. We will also be announcing the dates and topics for our new Honors Student Council Discussion Series. Professors will be coming to our meetings to lead discussions on various topics ; for example, English Professor Angelique Johnston will be leading a discussion with Photography Professor Jasna Bogdanovska called Snapchat Me: To what degree do visual images generate meta-perception or misperception? These discussions wont be lectures; instead, you will all be active participants. We feel that hosting these discussions will allow Honors students to explore different ideas and ways of thinking, and we hope that this series will help to build an intellectual community within the Honors Institute. Since these discussions will be worth Honors Points, they will also help you to earn your Honors Certificates. We will also be giving you the details of a great volunteer opportunity at MCC. You are invited to participate in conversation groups with ESOL students, which will help ESOL students with practicing English and also introduce you to new cultures. These conversation groups will be regularly scheduled, most likely on a weekly basis. They will be considered a community service activity, so they will be worth Honors Points. We will have four trips this semester. We will again be going to the Memorial Art Gallery, then we will also go to the Strong Museum, Mount Hope Cemetery, and a performance of The Mountaintop at Geva Theatre. These trips will be worth Honors Points. Finally, we will be introducing our new secretary, Maria Kane. We do still have the position of treasurer open; we will make the applications for this position available at our first meeting. We are looking for students who will still be at MCC for the 2015-2016 school year. An officer position is worth Honors Points. The Office of Student Life and Leadership has changed its training policies; trainings will no longer be eight hours, and they will be scheduled on an individual basis. Because of when the breaks fall, we will not be meeting on the first and third Wednesdays of the month like we did last semester. We will be meeting on February 4, February 25, March 4, March 18, April 15, April 29, and May 6. These are all Wednesdays, and we will be meeting in 6-331 from 12 to 12:50. We encourage you to make an OrgSync profile and join our OrgSync group. OrgSync is MCCs social media website, and it helps to connect students with the clubs and organizations on campus. Our OrgSync page is: https://orgsync/75573/chapter I know thats a lot of information, so if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]; Jennifer Pfaff, our vice president, at [email protected]; or Maria Kane, our secretary, at [email protected]. I hope to see you all soon!
