Dear friends around the world, Once again the peaceful protest for Gezi Park in Istanbul, carried on by non-political activists for 10 days, has been disrupted with the brutally violent police attacks, early this morning. The Turkish Prime Minister and the mainstream media have been portraying this occurrence as an act of protective intervention on marginal terrorists. Hiding behind this argument police is continuing their unequal use of force on protestors and civilians. The lawyers who are trying to enter the court house to defend the arrestees of the protests are being arrested themselves and are being prevented from doing their job within the rules of law. At the mean time the Prime Minister is making televised speeches every day addressing his electorial base who don’t have access to alternative ways of acquiring news and information aside from the mainstream media. He is distorting the facts to fit his aim and agenda. At this time, as the better informed people of Istanbul who became passionately involved in these protests and in what these protests came to represent, we are deeply concerned about the way things are being manipulated by the people who govern, protect and inform us. We want to believe that our stern but peaceful stand against this unjust situation will prevail and our government will take a simple, small and humble step back to see things clearly.
