Debatable topic indeed. No doubt maharashtra is much ahead of gujarat, but I dont think question here is which state id better. Question is which state (or govt) is performing better over last 10 years. I would comment on few things I know for sure Automobile industry: Telco - didnt even think of increasing investment in maharashtra due to poor policies. Instead tried bengal first & settled finally in gujarat. Also have offloaded huge work to pantnagar, lucknow, jamashedpur & dharwad plants. This has caused huge direct & indirect job losses Bajaj - almost on the verge of closing aurangabad plant. Not able to provide lightest on pocket vehicles it was known for. Again something to be blamed on taxation policies. Kinetic -no more working Force Motors -no growth at all VW group (Audi, skoda, volkswagon)- Stopped workers intake in pune. Mahindra - moved whole r&d base to tamilnadu, again due poor policies. Cost 3-4k direct jobs and many more indirect ones General Motors -moved operations to gujarat & karnataka (not to mention, again due to policies). Only few strategic departments exist in pun Fiat - struggling to survive Premier -shut down long ago No new auto company has come up in maharashtra in last 10 yrs. Tamilnadu got ford, Renault, Nissan, bmw, Daimler, chrysler. Gujarat got tata, gm. AP got Isuzu, hm... Kuthe ahe maharashtra? industrialisation -how many new industries came up in maharashtra? Baroda ahmedabad corridor in gujarat, orgadam kanchipuram & padi in Chennai, noida in delhi have grown superfast... Foreign Investments - has there been an event like vibrant gujarat or easy investment policies like tamilnadu, in maharashtra in last 10 years? Power generation - congress had promised in 2009 that maharashtra would be load shading free by 2012. Except mumbai, whole state is still getting free load shading. Gujarat have started generating huge solar power while tamilnadu have reduced average load shading from 6 hrs to 2hrs by generating huge tidal power. What has maharashtra govt done in last 10 yrs on this front? Irrigation&water supply-dont know about other states but most parts of marathwada & vidarbh still have to depend on rains. And they get drinking water once in 7 or 15 days Taxes-Latest LBT is driving businesses out. Vehicle taxes at 10-11% in maharashtra. In states like himachal, it is 5-6% Max cap on multiplex movie tickets at rs120 in tn. That is not even minimum in maharashtra. Thanks to taxes. Transport-huge taxes on petrol diesel in maharashtra & less on liquor. Reverse in goa. Petrol 80rs/lit in maharashtra, 60rs/lit in goa. State transport intersity min fare-maharashtra:rs 0.9/km tn:rs 0.5/km Gujarat: rs 0.6/km No doubt there are huge number of medical&engg colleges in maharashtra, but are there enough jobs/business opportunities for scholars going out of these colleges? Indeed if you Google, u will see many more such facts. And this is why it is, kuthe neun thevalay maharashtra maza magchya 10-12 varshat? And not kuthe ahe maharashtra gujarat chya comparison madhe One more thing. Those who feel maharashtra has good roads should travel on all roads in tamilnadu, most of the roads in ap, karnataka, rajasthan. And those who think mumbai pune express way is best should travel on Chennai-bangalore, bangalore-hyderabad, Chennai-hyderabad, belgaum-bangalore, hyderabad outer ring road, baroda-ahmedabad, yamuna express way and many more. Most of these roads have been built in last 10-15 years. Do visit them. That is why Maharashtra needs such a government that will bring it back on track and lead Maharashtra on the path of developement. Whom to vote is your call...I just fwrded as I thought its a good read.....
