Dr Kabi Prasad Mishra is no more. I have been knowing him since 1977 when he was in Chennai . Our families were close to each other living close by they at College Road and we at Haddows Road. His mother -in-law was a teacher to my mother in School. As a doctor he first detected BP when it started with my father and during our entire 3 years in Chennai he made it a point to always get his BP checked by him either at his place or our place on his way to office .He was Director of ICI. He is survived by his wife Dr Arati Mishra(Dolly Aunty),his two sons Raju and Biju as I know them. In Chennai he was instrumental in bringing together Oriyas there for all cultural events. He was also instrumental in the setting up of the Jagganath Temple there together with Dr S.N Majhi a Professor with IIT. He encouraged Mr Ramani Ranjan Jena an Odissi teacher at Chennai. After we left Chennai in 1980 for Mumbai he had come down to our house at Mumbai with a Parsee couple who were residents in Puri doing business, their son being his friend. The couple had moved over to Mumbai due to old age. There after I met him at Kalinga Hospital where I had taken my wife to him. He was so happy to see me there and told me to visit his house at Palash Palli which alas I never did. In between I had met Dr Arati while shopping at Reliance Fresh Surya nagar branch and she was recollecting the good times we had at Chennai. He had a large collection of books on emergency and I used to go to his house at Chennai to borrow and read. He once told me of an incident which happened in USA, he had found a coconut tree full of coconuts there and immediately he climbed the tree to pluck coconuts and American kids around started yelling that “Tarzan has come”. His father as I know was a sanskrit pandit and his mother was a very broadminded lady.. To me it is like a loss of a father figure. He was to me a divine being always working for humanity. He had signed the doctor’s certificate when M.G Ramachandran former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu died since no other doctor was willing to do so.
