EMBRACING THE RESPONSIBILITY OF LIFE That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:12 Thought for today Nobody can do the most important things of life for you. Life is a responsibility that must be accepted. Being alive requires work. A little baby born in the hospital must agree to breathe in order to live. While the baby was in the womb, the mother was breathing for the baby through the umbilical cord. But immediately the baby comes out, its first attempt is to cry and that cry opens up the lungs so that the respiratory reflex can commence. When a new-born child refuses to breathe, it has decided to die. If a little child is going to stand up from the lying down position, it must agree to stand up. If the child is going to crawl, it must agree to crawl. And if the child is going to walk, it must overcome fear and dare to walk. It has been said that life is a product of personal adventure. Nobody can do the most important things in life for you. As close as I am to my wife, I cannot say to her, I am too busy to eat for the next five days, please help me keep on eating the food I am to eat. I have heard people say, My wife is a very prayerful woman, so she is praying for me, or Oh my pastor is so interested in my life, so he is praying for me. The prayer of your wife and the prayer of your pastor may be able to deliver you from some dangers on earth but it cannot guarantee your eternity. It is your personal relationship with God and what you do as a person that guarantees how you end up with God. The responsibility of Bible study, prayer, living for God and going to Church must be accepted. Remember this: Nobody can do the most important things of life for you. Assignment 1. Identify the spiritual responsibilities of your faith in God. 2. Embrace those responsibilities.
