Economic development. The river, the parks, the sporting facilities, the cycling tracks, The Lord of the rings, the racecourse, the jousting tournament and other events attract visitors to Upper Hutt. I am a great fan of adventure tourism and would love to see a canopy adventure park developed in Upper Hutt. Mature pine forests make great locations to build canopy adventures, a series of zip lines, platforms, spider webs, Tarzan swings. Upper Hutt has some frighteningly deep ravines, perfect for a killer flying fox to satisfy adventure tourists. A treehouse cafe would compliment an adventure park. High up in the canopy of mature bush, the treehouse cafe would be a fantastic viewing platform for bird watching. Create jobs in adventure tourism for our young people, safety harness training is available in Palmerston North. A kitchen in the CBD to supply the treehouse cafe would also create jobs. Canopy adventure parks keep busy all year round, hosting birthday parties and corporate groups. The council (or a property owner) would need to allocate a suitable pine forest and make it available for development. Private developers with experience in the canopy adventure sector to build the park and run the business. This would be a great asset to the entertainment sector of Upper Hutt. I would love to hear what others think of this concept.
