Excerpts form the GCCC Independant Peer review (of the BORAL Gold Coast Quarry EIS) note: Transport Part 1. "Primarily, this assessment highlighted the need for further review and assessment by the proponent of the proposed site access intersection, based on the horizontal and vertical alignment and crash history of Old Coach Road". "A Road Safety Audit should be conducted to identify a suitable alternative site access location. Additionally, the audit should identify upgrade works required to achieve a suitable standard for Old Coach Road, with respect to existing deficiencies in pavement condition and alignment." "As the proposal will significantly increase traffic volumes on this road, the exposure to accidents is likely to increase. The increase in heavy vehicles attributable to the proposal may also increase the severity of any accidents that do occur, particularly given the narrow pavement formation and curvilinear alignment." "The subject development should not reasonably proceed in the absence of the nominated haulage route meeting the appropriate standards. The proponent should be required to submit engineering drawings (prepared by an RPEQ) detailing the upgrades required to comply with the relevant standards and guidelines (eg. GCCC, TMR, Austroads)." This seems in conflict with the commnet in the EIS which states "Based on the data and analysis contained within this report, the proposed Gold Coast Quarry project is anticipated to have an insignificant impact on the safety and efficiency of the road network." What do you think ?
