But we had narrowly escaped a major conflagration, and as I told the Sardauna and other Northern leaders, should the reactionary elements among the Fulani ruling classes not mend their ways, I was convinced that the region would one day have a full-scale peasants revolt on its hands, the outcome of which might be a collapse of the existing order.... - p.331. ...I would have been happier about the future had there been someone of Abubakars temperament and calibre at the head of affairs in the North. - p.383.
