FOLKS: As you go to the polls in three weeks, think of the effort expended by Democratic Senators in an attempt to assist the middle-class, grow the economy, increase jobs, reduce the deficit, assist Veterans, provide students with reduced interest rates for student loans, and a plethora of other issues. The reason I ask you to think on these things, is because at times the message sent during an election cycle can be lost amid the noise being offered by others; whether through distraction, or indirectly promoting and advocating a falsehood. But video doesnt lie, does it? The record tells the tale, and the pictures and words spoken cannot be taken back. Lest you have forgotten the record number of filibusters used by Republicans, nearly 1/3 of ALL filibusters recorded in the history of our nation, all for one purpose as stated by Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader PRIOR to President Obama being inaugurated: If we just vote in lock step; we can stop him (Obama) and deny him the change he promised the American people. (Paraphrased). Folks, forgive me, but it doesnt end there: Please read the following from the Book The New New Deal: Cantor’s whip staff had been planning a “walk-back” strategy in which they would start leaking that 50 Republicans might vote yes, then that they were down to 30 problem children, then that they might lose 20 or so. The idea was to convey momentum. “You want the members to feel like, Oh, the herd is moving. I’ve got to move with the herd,” explains Rob Collins, Cantor’s chief of staff at the time. That way, even if a dozen Republicans ultimately defected, it would look as if Obama failed to meet expectations. It cannot be any clearer folks! These Republicans PRIOR to this President being sworn into office, decided to literally deny ANY type of legislation the man supported. That would not be odd in normal politics, but when we are talking about the above issues, which affect every day common citizens such as you or me, that is a horrific slap across the metaphorical face of democracy. To be clear: Each of the issues (if you will only view the tape) better the lives of our citizens! Folks: These were not esoteric (socialistic) proposals, but common sense legislation that the Republican party USED TO agree to and vote FOR, only for either the Republican Senators to filibuster, or House Republicans refusing to bring the measure to the floor, under a rule, which was finally discovered by the author of said rule, Hastert, to be phony! That is, House Republicans COULD HAVE brought these issues to the floor for discussion allowing democracy to prevail, but due to their disdain of ONE person, the President, they punished the American people! In sum: To reward this kind of behavior not only establishes a dangerous precedent, but also rewards the very ones who tried to thwart democracy.
