Fixing Accountability - from yesterdays order by the High Court in the pedestrian safety PIL ... Henceforth, when any serious accident or injury happens to a pedestrian due to footpath encroachments, obstructions or due to footpath not being maintained in walkable state, the Officer in Charge of the Ward will be named as one of the accused in the FIR for negligence of discharge of duties. For all the countless people who have been victims of a missing drain cover, or an out-of-place median or kerbstones, or protruding transformer poles, and half-dug BWSSB pits ... I hope the push for process reform through this PIL will give you some satisfaction that something is finally being done to fix such a basic thing in our city. The court has also asked BBMP to set up an IT-based system for monitoring and solving problems with footpaths. It will take them some time to do this (and we will offer them all the free support they need). Meanwhile, do document your concerns with footpaths at walkability.mapunitygroups
