For anyone new to babywearing, I highly urge you to do through - TopicsExpress

For anyone new to babywearing, I highly urge you to do through research before purchasing. Please look into the down side of crotch dangling carriers and those that face out toward the stimuli. These potentially cause overstimulation and do not give baby the opportunity to turn away from the stimuli when desired. When facing toward the wearer they can avoid overstimulation and still look out as desired. More importantly the carriers that support baby by the crotch with the legs dangling lack adequate support for the baby. This is incompatible and harmful with their anatomy. Their crotch solely is supporting them. This position is damaging to the wearers back and harmful to the babys growing anatomy. The baby should be facing toward wearer in a seated position. Legs spread apart literally as though seated. I HIGHLY recommend baby wearing. I also recommend looking into what is called the 4th trimester. Newborns biologically are not designed to be placed down separate from mother. They are meant to be kept close and nursing often... Do you ever wonder why newborns are content with mom but when placed down immediately wake? This is normal and the norm for our species! Keeping the baby close by wearing and performing as much skin to skin as possible is immensely beneficial in those crucial early weeks where your milk supply is being established. It leaves mom free to nurse on demand while her hands are still free. The baby will be content and spend more time in the quiet alert state, which is the state in which they learn at their maximum capacity. They are content and able to snuggle while nursing as they desire. A happy baby is a happy momma! Note that newborns nurse A LOT in the beginning and this is normal and does NOT indicate inadequate milk supply. As I said, baby wearing helps the baby to nurse as often as needed, while making it much easier on mom, especially while out and about and preventing supply issues later in the breastfeeding relationship. When shopping car seats are NOT safe when placed on top of shopping carts and if one does so then they are potentially placing the infant in harms way by either the cart being tipped over or the infant seat falling onto the floor/into the cart. The click you hear is not meaning the cart is secure, the car seat clip is solely meant to secure the seat into the car seat base or the travel system stroller, and this usage actually may potentially alter the clip function. Please check your car seat manual as it counter indicates this usage! This leaves limited options for the mother shopping. She can either put the seat into the cart leaving limited room for groceries, or use the travel system which again leaves limited room for groceries as she cant always have another person to push a cart! The other option is placing the infant in the cart and having another person to push a different cart, but once again the other person may not always be available! Carrying the baby by hand is not effective, so my point is that baby wearing is a life saver when it comes to running errands! Bottom line is that baby wearing is phenomenal and worth extensive research before purchasing. The 4th trimester is critical to understand as is breastfeeding and how the astonishing female body works as it pertains to the creation of nutrition for our offspring. Three very important topics to research!
