Gabriela Romero Jerez b. 1978 In The Moment At The Mountain Among the resilient Sonora flora that claims to exist with fruitful buds – then bloom in a vibrant display, and we their servants, to mimic their beauty among our separate journeys. At times we may float, and at others are secure and stable. I come to my temple of prayer – when I float or am stable, for I always Know that in that direction I must go! My compass directs me to the force of the mountain and in there I find, my peace and balance along the crevices which show what humanity can ultimately become - Who I used to be, who I have become, and who I aspire to be. The truth is there! Surrounding our valley, where I walk through the air - inhale the clear, crisp and clean for I become aware. In the moment of memories and pain, where I stand through the air - exhale the shame, illness and fear at the mountain. For my truth is there! It is she that calls out to me, and so I retreat alone- to seek more truths and forgiveness. The wind, and the rain may cause erosion with a flood of a tremendous degree- my shell is brushed by the heavy debris, but that wise old mountain is still there. Present, stable, and proud to be who she is! So I too, may erode like she and shed my shell to be at one with her. As her strength and beauty permeates deep, in the layers and lines of her time. The vital spirit continues to grow and show! Her rocks and soil tend to the minerals she molds and lovingly holds, throughout her insistence! And I am with her, as I start my hike and hold my staff in our desert my only temple.
