Grab the Opportunity for Du’aa at this perfect time! Allah praised His believing slaves, who will enter Jannah and live therein forever – and He mentioned, ‘Istagfar (seeking forgiveness) before daybreak‘ as on of their characteristics. “Those who spend (i.e., in Zakaat) and those who pray and beg Allah’s Forgiveness in the last hours of the night.” [Soorah al-Imran (3): 17] and “And in the hours before dawn, they were (found) asking (Allah) for forgiveness.” [Soorah adh-Dhariyat (51): 18] The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Our Lord descends every night to the lowest heaven when one-third of the night remains, and He says, ‘Who will CALL upon Me - so that I may ANSWER Him? Who will ASK of Me- so that I may GIVE him? Who will SEEK My FORGIVENESS - so that I may FORGIVE him?’” [Saheeh al-Bukharee and Saheeh Muslim] It is thus, known that last hours of the night is a virtuous time. And the Hadeeth proves that Dua at this time is responded if the conditions/requirements of the Dua are met, and obstacles removed - because Allah has PROMISED: responding to the Dua of whosoever calls upon Him, giving those who ask of Him, forgiving those who seek His forgiveness. From Abu Umaamah (radhi allahu anhu): It was said, ”O Messenger of Allah, which Dua is (most) heard?” The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) replied: ”In the last-third of the night, and following the prescribed prayers.” [al-Tirmidhee (3499) Classed as hasan by Allamah al-Albanee in Saheeh al-Tirmidhee] and this is one of the times which the slave should – in Ramadaan and outside it – benefit from and NOT MISS IT due to sleepiness or sleep or laziness - because, it is the time of Allah’s descent in the way that befits the Majesty of Allah and His Greatness without Takyeef and without Tamtheel… ibn Battal said: “This is a noble/honorable time which makes one desirous (of benefitting from it); a time which Allah has specified for descent, and He has made it meritious for his slaves with answering their Dua’s, and giving them what they ask for, and forgiving their mistakes because this is a time of negligence/heedlessness and privacy and being occupied with sleep and pleasure - and parting from pleasure is difficult upon the slaves; especially the people of comfort/luxury in cold weather and for those people, who exert themselves in short nights - and whosoever prefers standing (before His Rabb) for private conversation and humbles himself before Him for forgiveness of his sins, and to ransom his neck from the fire, and making tawbah (repentance) in this difficult time over his privacy and pleasure – parting from his pleasure and his tranquility - then this is a sign of his sincere niyyah and upright desire for that which is with his Rabb. and this is why, Allah grants the Dua of His slaves at this time, in which the slave frees himself from all the thoughts/desires of the dunya and its attachments – for the sake of devotion/sincerity to His Rabb - and so, Allah answers His Dua due to His Kindness with His Creation and His Mercy for them, and for Him is the praise always…” [end quote Ibn Battal] and (thus,) in these blessed nights is gathered for the Mu’min; an hour of Dua being answered descent of Allah the noble hours of Ramadaan and as-Salaf as-Saleh of this ummah used to devote themselves for Qiyaam al-Layl especially in the month of Ramadaan – following their Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) – from Jabir ibn Abdullah (radhi allahu anhu) that he heard Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) say: “There is an hour during the night in which no Muslim individual will ask Allah for good in this world and the next without His giving it to him; and that applies to every night.” [Saheeh Muslim (1654)] So, if one wakes up in the last part of the night for eating suhoor, then let him assert enough time for dhikr and Dua and recitation of the Qur’an and Salaat - be attentive and seek the reward from Allah for his Qiyaam, and take care of Ikhlas and Khushoo in his Salaat, hoping that he might have a share in the saying of Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wasallam): “O people! spread salaam, feed the hungry, be in touch with your kin, and pray while people are asleep (at night) you shall enter paradise peacefully.” [at-Tirmidhee (7/187) and he said it is Saheeh] O Allah, we ask you for Jannah, and for every saying and act which takes one closer to it , and we seek refuge with You from the Fire and every saying and act which takes one closer to it.
